Choosing to Homeschool

Choosing to Homeschool

Choosing to Homeschool can be very intimidating at first. It does not mean that you are for a specific political party, or that you are totally against public school. It may not have anything to do with either of those! It could be a decision based on schedule, location, special needs, or just a personal preference. But, you will definitely hear other people’s judgments regarding your decision to Homeschool. Mostly, they do it out of fear. Some do it out of judgement. And, there is always the controversy of working mom vs. stay-at-home mom. Never play into that trap! All moms make choices based on what is best for their family. That is something to be celebrated, not opened for debate!

It’s not expensive or hard to do. You do not have to spend a fortune for your child’s curriculum. The first thing that you need to do is check the laws in your state, to make sure you follow it correctly. Then, you need to have resources such as Home School Legal Defense Association in place. Everything that you will need can be found on their website.

There are so many organizations and Homeschool Groups for both you & your child to have resources. This also gives them plenty of socialization too. Many Homeschool parents are Teachers. That also gives you the opportunity to have the other parents as a resource for the subjects that you may not be strong in.

Some parent’s choose to Homeschool due to the fact that their child has Special Needs. The child had numerous Doctor appointments, Speech Therapy, Occupational Therapy, an IEP, etc. Some children excel in certain areas, while struggling in others. Homeschooling makes it easier and less stressful to do.

Did you know that with Homeschooling one child, you can do almost every subject, everyday? That is because you eliminate the time spent taking attendance, switching classrooms, walking to lunch, etc.  Your child is also less distracted by the activity around them.

Sometimes the choice to Homeschool just works out best for some families. Just because they choose it for their family, does not mean they are totally against everything else.
