Fabulous CATO Fashions Haul

Fabulous CATO Fashions Haul

I needed to find a “go-to” pair of jeans that were really sharp looking, so off to CATO Fashions it was. I knew they had stylish jeans that fit right! And, of course my eyes saw other items that were so “darlin!” I hate trying on clothes, but you have to know if something fits you, before you leave the store. I’m so glad that I did.

This lace top is so gorgeous!

Charcoal Grey Jacket with ruffles

I only went into the store to get 1 pair of jeans! And, this is what happened:

While looking in all the different places for jeans, I saw all of these adorable tops. They go so perfectly with the jeans too. The first 2 tops were on sale. But then, I saw the Ruffle Jacket on display, inside the dressing room! And, it looked so cute on the mannequin. So, of course I just had to try it on. The ruffle jacket had all of the elements that I love in a jacket/top. I tried it on, it looked so good, it goes perfect with my boots, and I had to have it. It was not on sale. I bought it anyway.

Everything was on sale except the jeans and ruffle jacket.

I remember being 15-years-old with a work permit, and my first job was for a fashion store just like CATO’s. I also worked in a shoe store, and took Marketing I & II. I have many years of Sales & Marketing experience.

Good move CATO, good move. You got me in the store and strategically placed a maze for me to maneuver through your store, all the while seeing every adorable piece of fashion that you have! I digress!

The cute “sport jersey” top was $13.99

The lace top was $21.99

The jeans were $21.99

The pre-tax total without the jacket would have been about $57.97

Add in the $29.99 jacket, and the total made it almost $88 before taxes.

I needed a couple of more tops, and I’m happy with the end result. I’m also very pleased with the quality of the clothing. I have a pair of CATO jeans, and they have been very sturdy. Now, if I could just find those pink boots!

New Year’s: Black-Eyed Peas & Turkey Necks Good Luck Recipe

New Year’s: Black-Eyed Peas & Turkey Necks “Good Luck Recipe”

Good Luck Recipe

Good Luck Recipe

I was born & raised in the South. They say that eating black-eyed peas on New Year’s Day is good luck. So, here is my Southern Style New Year’s: Black-Eyed Peas & Turkey Necks Good Luck Recipe!

I use smoked turkey necks, and the first time that I tried them, I was guarded. But, they are so good, and add the best flavor to black-eyed peas! So delicious! :)

Some people use vinegar in their recipe, I do not. (You can season the recipe how you like it!)

1- bag of dried black-eyed peas

1- onion

1- package of smoked turkey necks

3- stalks of celery (optional, but it does give the recipe a wonderful flavor)

1- bottle of hot sauce (optional)

Salt-free Original Blend ( you can purchase all different flavors e.g., Garlic & Herb, Chipotle, Lime & Herb, Spicy, etc.)

Montreal steak seasoning

Parsley flakes

Celery seed

Celery salt

Majoram (very strong herb, so use just a pinch!)

Dill weed

Thyme (very strong herb, so use just a pinch!)

Rubbed sage

Fennel seed

Basil (very strong herb, so use just a pinch!)

*optional* Garlic (use fresh garlic, or minced)

** add a Mustard seed for good luck

Some of  the spices are very strong. So, use sparingly, and to your liking. Refer to the old saying: “a little dab’ll do ya!” Kinda like Kindergarten class, when referring to the glue! lol

Also, several of the spices have symbolic meaning, and have good health benefits.

Listed below are some examples:

Fennel symbolizes longevity, courage, and strength. It is also an antioxidant, dietary fiber, vitamins, and minerals.

Basil has good luck properties.

Place the beans in the slow cooker, and cover them with water. Add all of your spices, onions, celery, and then place 4-6 turkey necks into the mixture. Cook on low for 6-8 hours, or place on high for 4 hours. Stir the mixture occasionally, and season to taste.

This recipe is best served with cornbread, and hot sauce added to your portion! Oh, and the corn bread must be “Golden Brown!” ;)

Hope everyone has a wonderful New Year’s

Hope everyone has a wonderful New Year’s! We have been sick around here, and it seems the flu is bad this year. Thankfully, we have all had our flu shot, so it hasn’t been too bad. Our’s was a mild case of a stomach virus. But, the local school had half of it’s students out the week before last. Apparently, they have a stomach & a respiratory virus going around.

Anyway, does anybody want to win a Keurig® brewer? Maybe we’ll join some other bloggers for a giveaway!

We’re making some changes for 2013, and will be working on them in the coming weeks.

Hopefully everyone will be in a better mood! ;)

Holiday Shellac nails

Holiday Shellac nails

Holiday Shellac nails

Holiday Shellac nails

These are my Holiday Shellac nails. They are my real fingernails!! No fakes. I have not had my nails done in many, many years! I went in to just have them painted for the Holidays, and ended up with a manicure & shellac painted nail design. My nails are so long that they ended up cutting my nails shorter! I was very impressed with the quality of the shellac paint. It has such an extremely high gloss finish.

The shellac paint can NOT be purchased by the public, and I have read that it is hard to get off. Your fingernails have to be very healthy, or it can cause damage to weak nails.

I just wanted a fun Holiday theme, but it was so cool to watch the lady put the design on each nail. She used a really long, skinny brush for the white snowflake detail.

I would normally only go with a solid color as a choice, but I’m so pleased with the Holiday theme.

Next time I will go with a really pretty & girly “pink!” ;)

Why I love my Elf on the Shelf®

There are those that love the Elf, and those that hate it! Some think it’s creepy, and my boys think it’s creepy. But, this is Why I love my Elf on the Shelf®!

elf in the tree

I think the elf is adorable! My boys are older, so it really doesn’t matter. They will not be traumatized by an elf. I think it is a light-hearted & fun activity to add laughter to your household. I think we could all use as much of that as possible.

I mean really, the elf is not suppose to be a babysitter. And, he did not replace Santa! He is suppose to be Santa’s helper, and a fun Holiday activity for kids.

Elf cookies

We made fun Holiday “Christmas” cookies! Now, we are off to celebrate the Holiday’s with family.

Wishing everyone a Wonderful & Blessed Holiday!!! :)

What I love the most is the option to search by category, and to apply filters. That way, you can shop for exactly what you are looking for. I am a huge online shopper, and I can find some really amazing deals. But, I also like to shop at stores. Especially, for the items that are too large for shipping. The idea of having this App on my phone while shopping at a store gives me the added security of knowing that I can compare prices on the go. There is nothing worse that standing in a store trying to decide if this is the best price, and wondering: “if I don’t buy it now, will it still be there if I come back?”

I love the idea of having the power as a customer. I can stand in a store, and buy a product from somewhere else if necessary. You don’t just have to use your legs for walking out of a store, because you can do it right from your phone.

Also, this is perfect for “Price Comparison” too. When you’re trying to find the right price for electronics, just go to the Best Decision App to pull it up right from your phone for up-to-the-minute pricing.

$20 OFF your first purchase (will be refunded back to you) of $50 or more is good through December 27, 2012.

Why I haven’t Blogged since the Newtown, CT Tragedy!!

To all of my wonderful readers! I haven’t Blogged since the Newtown, CT Tragedy!! Why? There are so many things that I have to share, but it just didn’t seem like the time. We all were flabbergasted. And, posting about anything just didn’t seem right.

I have been at a complete loss for words, have cried so many tears, and have found it quite difficult to be online.

You see, I am Mother that has lost a child. Of course, it is in no comparison to what happened Friday. My first son passed away at the babysitter’s house, and I know the pain of burying a child right before the Holidays.

It is the most shocking and horrifying thing that no parent should ever endure. And, it is true that it is something that you can never get over. The pain will always be there.

(I am also the mother to wonderful son that has Asperger’s. The reporting or comparison of this horrible tragedy to People with Autism/Asperger’s has sickened me.)

By the way, Autism is Neurological and is in NO way a mental illness. People can have an overlapping diagnosis, possibly be labeled until the true diagnosis manifests itself, and can be in their early 20′s when their true diagnosis fully manifests. That is not Autism/Asperger’s in any way shape or form. I have known both types of people very well, and they are very different. And, speaking up for Autism does not mean that you are speaking against any other. Please have respect, and just because you are online, it does not mean that you are anonymous. These are children that we are talking about. Hopefully someday, we will have all the answers. But, first we must work together.

Anyway, I wanted to let everyone know a couple of things. One of the children that passed away had an Aunt and a Grandma that are Bloggers. He was a twin, and there are several organized funds that will help benefit the family’s costs. I have put together many items for donation to be auctioned on their behalf. I will let you know as soon as they have it posted, and hope that you will be able to participate.

You have no idea the amount of things that these families will need to even begin to try and get through any of this. And, of course there are things that no money can replace.

As we move forward over the next few weeks, let’s do everything that we can to make 2013 even better.

Thank-you to all the wonderful readers that make this blog  worth it!
